Antique Silver Brooch with Hand-painted Miniature of a Lady
The antique, silver brooch / pendant contains an oval, late 18th Century hand-painted miniature portrait of a lady (41mm x 30mm). The portrait is behind glass in a rub-over setting with a twist-wire surround, which, in turn, is surrounded by an open work and beaded, hexagonal silver frame. The frame has a solid silver backing. The brooch has an oval hinged loop to enable it to be worn alternatively as a pendant. The miniature is signed with what appears to be “LICH”. The brooch is marked “800” which indicates that it was made of 80% silver. It is likely that the pendant and the miniature originate in Continental Europe.
