Victorian 9ct Gold, Pinchbeck and Pearl Portrait Necklace
The antique, late Victorian era necklace consists of a 9ct yellow-to-rose gold portrait frame pendant on a Pinchbeck belcher chain. The pendant has a 9ct gold round surround, claw-set with seed pearls (approximately 40 ranging from 1mm - 4mm diameter), to circular bezels forming glazed compartments, front and back. The glass cover at the back is hinged. The pendant has a decorative fixed bale set with 6 seed pearls (approximately 1.5mm – 2.5mm diameter). The pendant contains a miniature portrait of a lady (hand-coloured print) at the front, and a lock of hair at the back. The pendant is unmarked but has been electronically scanned and tests to be 9ct gold. The chain is Pinchbeck and consists of a belcher chain with a tongue-and-tube closure.
