The antique, oval, pinchbeck brooch is set with a large, flat, oval, polished, brown agate (4.3cm x 3.5cm) set into the fancy, pierced pinchbeck frame. The brooch has no marks.
Pinchbeck is an alloy of copper and zinc that strongly resembles gold. It was developed early in the 18th Century and found use in making less expensive jewellery.
