Antique Silver Brooch with Butterfly Wing by Thomas L Mott

The round, antique, silver brooch has a hand-painted scene on the inside of the glass cover, against a “Morpho” tropical butterfly wing. There is some wear to the butterfly wing. The brooch is marked “TLM; STERLING; ENGLAND”, which shows that it was made by English silversmith Thomas L Mott. The Thomas L. Mott company, formed in 1875 in England, is known to vintage jewellery collectors as the maker who popularized the "Butterfly Wing" style of jewellery in the 1920s.
