Margaret Richardson Silver and 9ct Gold Clip-on Earrings
Modernist Margaret Richardson Silver and 9ct Gold Clip-on Earrings
The vintage, Modernist, clip-on earrings each have a hand-beaten, sterling silver dish with an oxidised inner bowl, mounted with a raised square, that in turn supports a stepped, square, plain 9ct yellow gold panel. The rear of each dish has a clip-on element. The earrings are each stamped “925” for sterling silver, “9ct”, and “LMR” for Lilly (Ulli) Margaret Richardson. Born Ulli Margarete Samuelson in Russia 1908, Margaret Richardson later settled in South Africa after WWII, worked in Johannesburg in the 1960’s and 1970’s, and became well known for her hand-made gold and silver jewellery, which was generally in the Modernist style. She died in 1989.
